He ran through the woods.
His breath burned in his lungs; his sneakered feet pounded against the ground. Branches whipped, caught on his shirt, nearly tore off his glasses. A howl, sudden and chilling, broke through the sound of his labored breathing. He ran faster, raced toward it, desperate to get there before—
The trees stopped. He stood at the edge of a clearing that was awash in the light of the full moon. Three bodies lay in the center—three forms unmoving. His pulse pumped, a living thing that throbbed in his ears to an unfamiliar beat. He took a step forward.
The black wolf stopped pacing. Across the clearing from Nathan, it stood calmly behind the bodies and watched him with eyes that glowed an uncanny orange.
Nathan’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. He should have weapons: a large branch or an emergency flare lit and blazing. He had neither.
The wolf threw back its head and howled.
Nathan started forward. He had to get to them. He had to get there before someone else.
At a movement to his left, he jerked away, stumbled over his own feet. On his right, a hand steadied him; its grip was sure on his elbow.
“It’s okay,” Kiara said. Her honey-gold eyes matched Cole’s. Diminutive, with a strength that belied her size, she kept her grip firm.
“We’re here.” Cole, it was Cole who’d appeared on his left. “It’s okay,” Cole echoed his sister; his deep voice seemed calm.
Relief left him weak. They were here. It would be okay.
Across the clearing, a door opened, and a woman stepped through.
The door was familiar; its nondescript beige paint was an exact match for the door in Nathan’s office at the university. He frowned; a line of trepidation snaked cold down his back.
“Mr. Roberts.” The woman’s voice carried easily across the clearing, clear as if she was standing only feet away. “If I could have a word.” Her hair was long and dark. In the moonlight he couldn’t see the color, but knew, with a horror that expanded slowly in the pit of his stomach, that it was the deep-red of dried blood.
“No.” His protest caught in his throat. “No, no I don’t want—”

Nathan Roberts was just your average polyamorous librarian living in Vancouver until his best friend, Deanna started dating a werewolf. While hosting the small pack in his apartment while they hid from the underground network of Huntsmen, Nathan enjoyed a casual fling with Cole, the pack leader’s brother. But now, he may just be falling for him.
When his neighbor is murdered, Nathan is convinced the death is linked to the supernatural, but Cole and their friends deny any paranormal connection. This leads to a fracture of trust in their relationship, and Cole’s pack is left to deal with an unknown killer on the loose. As Nathan pursues answers on his own, he must come to terms with the truth, and his feelings for Cole.
