Blurb

The teacher and the student. The stable hand and the single dad. First times and friendship turn to love.

Toby
There’s nothing attractive about a twenty-four year old virgin, especially not one who blushes every time a hot dude looks his way. But I can’t help the heat that ripples through me every time I see Cole Maguire. And the clench of my heart when I realise how unhappy he is. He’s a city boy with a baby on his hip—we have nothing in common—but if he can teach me how to own my sexuality, perhaps I can teach him he’s worth loving.

Cole
I don’t like horses. But I love my daughter, and there’s nothing I won’t do for her, including leaving the city for life on a farm. I’m ready for that, but I’m not ready for blushing stable hands who make my heart race and my blood run hot. Toby has no idea how beautiful he is. I can teach him that, if he can handle the heat, but after one night with him…damn.

Maybe it’s me that has a lot to learn.

The Sex Coach is an MM summer romance with first times, a virgin stable hand, a single dad pilates teacher, and guaranteed happy ending.

Check out the other tour participants and see what they have to say about the book. 🙂

Review

The Sex CoachThe Sex Coach by Garrett Leigh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*~~*ARC kindly provided by the author to me in exchange for an honest review *~~*

Right to the beginning of the book it’s mentioned that this book is set place at Whisper Farm, that farm you know from the Skins series and has re-appearent characters from these books. Even if you’re not familiar with the happenings in the books before, The Sex Coach is fully understandable and enjoyable without that prior knowledge.

Garrett Leigh truly knows how to capture the reader’s attention. The narration in first person past perfect helps you switch the POV, see “insight” the character’s mind – an aspect important for understanding Leigh’s characters even better. Leigh draws her characters in very honest lines, they’re unapologetic real, rough at the the edges sometimes, beaten by life and what has happened to them, shaped by prior – in many cases  unpleasant – experiences. That’s what I always cherish in her books and what I got delivered here.

Toby and Cole are two very different yet complementary characters; they’re chemistry is there, in Toby’s case a first lust and thrist because of his inexperience, in Cole case because of Toby’s undeniable youthful charm (but acknowledges soon how mature he already is, that he is a full grown adult, something that others on the farm have harder times to understand).

I was very drawn to the fact that Cole already has a little daughter, a sweet thing of few months old, and that he is a single dad. Adding this to the mix, the plot is a really unique one: a single dad substitute Pilates teacher who’s offering the virgin stable boy/ farm help exploring his sexuality with him. I’m honest here, I was a bit sceptical how this would be executed but to my suprise – even if it shouldn’t be one – it was fleshed out delicately and very sweet, without being too cheesy or – from Cole’s position – condescending. Both are on the same page, mutual agreement on how far they go, what the bounderies are are discussed beforehand and never overstepped.

In exploring each other through bodily pleasures they connect even more and – againt without being overly cheesy or kitschy you really feel the deep feelings between these characters. Especially when Toby is casual domestic with Cole and his sweet daughter Ella, you can really see how Toby is the right partner for Cole.

As being set on the Whisper Farm the reader has a pleasant reunion with all the main characters from the Skins series. It was especially warming for me as an advanced reader of Leigh’s book to see these interactions, to get a glimpse in their lives after we left them in the privious books. But even as a new reader you’re charmed by the deep relationships, the close connection and perhaps this is the spark you need to go back to the prior book. I can definitely say it’s worth to tackle Leigh’s backlist. But prepared to be emotionally devasted afterwards but sigh in happiness.

The Sex Coach is a mix of all the best things that Garrett Leigh does great: a captivated writing from swtching POVs to get a better insight of the character’s thoughts and emotions, an intriguing blurb that reveals a coherent storyline with deep feelings between the charactes – all without being too sweet or kitschy. The sprinkles of the not so perfect aspects in the character’s (past) lifes, the honest display of weakness and not being capable to work “properly” is what makes the books so precious.
4.5 stars for this book.
