I admit I am very picky when it comes to stories with vampires and I hesitate starting stories with those paranormal creatures when I am not sure if I can trust the author. Knowing that this author definitely doesn’t have disappointed me in her display and execution of paranormal creatures and supernatural elements in the past I jumped happily into this story. And damn, was it a great one.
Annabelle Jacobs knows how to make the characters mysterious and you are super excited to read further, to see what she has in her sleeve.
What I mostly adore with Jacobs’ writing is that she is adding characters who aren’t morally flawless; especially with this vampire topic we see our hero Jesse struggling with being a immortal creature; he is driven by his instincts, especially in the beginning he is hardly controlling them, and the way we read about the darker parts being innumanly strong, almost undead and immortal is something very eyeopening, in fact almost touching. It makes the hero even more human, even if he is it anymore – not in the traditional sense.
The book wouldn’t be a true Jacobs’ book if there wasn’t a bit funny scenes in it and with their quirky charme and sometimes adorable mistakes the book is a true entertainment.
The book is pageflipping good and filled with twists and you’re eager to read further to see how it ends.

One night can change everything…
Jesse Sykes has lived far longer than his youthful appearance suggests. Becoming a vampire after tragedy struck seemed the only option when his soul was shattered, after all he’s no stranger to having to hide what he is from the rest of the world. But eternal life isn’t without problems or heartache.
With a good job and great friends, Ian Moreton’s life would be almost perfect—if only he wasn’t in love with his best friend. His feelings are unrequited, and in an effort to move on, he takes a chance on a one-night stand with the handsome stranger he meets in a bar.
Jesse knows the risks of becoming attached to a human, but with neither of them looking for anything serious, where’s the harm? At least, that’s what Jesse thinks until his chemistry with Ian proves off the charts.
A second hook-up solidifies their connection…and brings Jesse to his senses. He scrambles to protect Ian from danger, but it’s already too late. With Ian unwittingly drawn into a world he knows nothing about, events are set in motion that will change both of their lives forever, and it’s up to Jesse to steer them safely through it.
