The review is written bilingual, in Englisch and German. It’s for my international reader as well as the German reader since here I will present sometimes German exclusive titles, some are translations from english titles.

Betting on Forever by Felice Stevens

A weekend fling in Atlantic City couldn’t be more out of socially shy Zach Cohen’s comfort zone, but a bet with his best friends forces him to put aside the humiliation he’s hidden for years and step away from behind his computer screens and online world. When he meets Sam Stein, despite their spark, Zach expects nothing more than a night of passion and a kiss good-bye. Yet weeks later, he can’t keep the man out of his head.
After a split-second decision with tragic results ends his twenty-year police career at the same time as his relationship falls apart, Sam Stein is drifting through life. At his best friend’s urging, he agrees to a trip to Atlantic City to clear his head. What Sam doesn’t plan on is meeting Zach Cohen, whose sweet nature and honesty has him thinking maybe he could move forward, until Zach leaves him without explanation, reinforcing Sam’s belief that people can’t be trusted.
Well-meaning friends refuse to let Zach and Sam hide from each other, forcing them to realize their weekend was much more than a one-night stand. Before that can happen, Zach must come to terms with his past and stand up for his own independence, while Sam has to learn to take a chance and believe in himself and people again. All bets are off when dreams become reality, and forever doesn’t seem to be long enough.
Reading stories written by Felice Stevens are always a garant for me that I get what I adore and love about gay romance books: charming character, which carry problems and therefore are realistic. Character who have to endure a few things or solve a few problems but at the end they get their HEA. This is all mixed up with hot, steamy scenes, the erotic asthetically and neither dull nor repulsive.
The second book in The Breakfast Club series is about the nerdy Zach, the one of the three guys who is the most shy, most introverted in their group. I always have a huge heart for thise kind of guys and therefore it is hard not to love Zach and I totally was with him.
Zach is a guy who is always putting his need behind, he is caring about his mother, he is caring about his friends and his interaction with guys is nearly non existing. He has a few hook ups but those only ease the itch, the surface.
Zach meets Sam when he attends to a work related convention and the tension, the chemistry is there. Due to several actions both guys have a great time together but it’s only a short get together…
You could think the book ends at this point but Felice Stevens of course rolled out a book with believable action and luckly Zach and Sam meet again.
I really loved how the different sides of Zach are shown and in the book you finally get to know why he is acting his way, why he is feeling he needs to support his mother.
Sam on the other hand is also a character with great issues, he has also a lot of burden he’s carrying around. Slightly depressed and sad about his end of his police career he is trying to find something else he can find joy in.
Felice Stevens has a great way to show the both guy’s struggles, with a well known writing you are with Sam and Zach. What I also really liked in this book was the slight age gap between Sam and Zach, this made the book interesting but in the end it makes sense Zach is binding with an older guy.

Eine Wette mit seinen besten Freunden bringt den zurückhaltenden Computerfachmann Zach Cohen dazu, sich auf eine Wochenendaffäre mit dem Ex-Cop Sam Stein einzulassen. Obwohl sie eine leidenschaftliche Nacht miteinander erleben, reist Zach ab, ohne eine Nachricht für Sam zu hinterlassen. Doch der Mann geht ihm nicht mehr aus dem Kopf.
Sam Stein, der aufgrund eines tragischen Fehlers seinen Polizeidienst quittieren musste, versteht die Welt nicht mehr, als er feststellt, dass sein One-Night-Stand tatsächlich genau das war: eine einmalige Nacht. Er versucht, Zach aus seinen Gedanken zu verbannen und weiterhin so zurückgezogen zu leben wie vorher.
Doch das Schicksal hat etwas anderes für beide Männer geplant.
Es zeigt sich, dass Stories von Felice Stevens anscheinend ein Garant dafür sind, mir das zu geben, was ich in Gay Romance-Titeln liebe und bevorzuge. Ihre Bücher enthalten charmante Figuren, die allesamt Probleme mit sich rumtragen und somit realistisch werden. Figuren, die viel ertragen müssen und die ihre Probleme lösen, um am Ende ihr Happy End zu bekommen. Kombiniert wird all das mit heißen, ansprechenden erotischen Szenen, die ästhetisch und somit weder langweilig noch abstoßend sind.
Das zweite Buch der The Breakfast Club Reihe hat den nerdigen Zach im Fokus, der der schüchternste, der introvertierteste der Gruppe ist. Ich bin schon immer ein großer Fan dieser Art Character gewesen und so ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass ich Zach liebe und ich mit ihm konstant mitgefiebert habe.
Zach ist ein Mann, der viele seiner Bedürfnisse hinten anstellt, einer, der sich um seine Mutter, seine Freunde kümmert. Seine Interaktionen mit anderen Typen geht gegen null und die wenigen One Night Stands, die er hat, lindern nur kurzzeitig seine Bedürfnisse. Sie kratzen nur an der Oberfläche.
Zach trifft auf Sam als Zach beruflich eine Convention besucht und die Chemie zwischen den beiden, die Spannung ist sofort da. Aufgrund verschiedener Aspekte führt es dazu, dass sie ein kurzes Intermezzo haben, eines, welches beide nicht vergessen können.
Man könnte jetzt denken, damit sei das Buch zu ende, doch Felice Stevens weiß, genau da anzusetzen und überzeugt mit nachvollziehbaren Aktionen. Zach und Sam treffen sich glücklichweise wieder.
Die unterschiedlichen Seiten, die Zach zeigt, sind Apekte, die ich sehr genossen habe. Man versteht endlich, wieso er so handelt, wie er es tut und wieso er das Bedürfnis hat, seiner Mutter so zu helfen.
Sam auf der anderen Seite ist ebenfalls eine Figur, die mit Problemen daherkommt. Er trägt auch eine Menge Balast mit sich herum. Es ist leicht depressiv aufgrund der Art und Weise, wie seine Polizeikarriere geendet hat und er versucht etwas zu finden, aus dem er neue Freude ziehen kann. Etwas, was ihm enorm schwer fällt, da er sich stets über die Arbeit identifiziert hat.
Felice Stevens schafft es auf ihre eigene Art und Weise, mit ihrer eigenen Schreibe, dass man die Probleme der beiden Männer versteht und mit ihnen mitfühlt. Was mir ebenso an diesem Buch gefallen hat war der kleine Altersunterschied zwischen Zach und Sam, was eine gewisse Spannung erzeugt hat. Es passt zu Zach, dass er einen älteren Partner hat.
This book gets 5 out of 5 stars. I really love Zach and if I recall the other books (the english versions are re-reads for me) I love him the most. 🙂
Dieses Buch bekommt 5 von 5 Sternen. Ich liebe die Figur Zach wirklich und wenn ich überlege, wie es mir mit den anderen Büchern geht (die englischen Versionen sind re-reads), fällt mir auf, dass ich ihn am meisten mag. 🙂
