Review Tour: Eagle in the Hawthorn by Sam Burns + short review: In Any Light

My lovely readers, I am thrilled to present you my review  of Sam Burn’s seventh book in the Rowan Harbor Cycle series, Eagle in the Hawthorn.
With this book the third and last trilogy of three in total starts, so prepare to read two more books in the whole series (for those who got lost :D).

This post also includes the short story In Any Light, Isla (and Cassidy’s story). You don’t have to read their (love)story to follow the events of the 7th book, Eagle in the Hawthorn, but I recommend it dearly if you love a quick and very nice FF story. 🙂

If this all picked your interest read further what the books are about.

But enough of the rambling, happy reading. 🙂
My release blitz can be read here.

The plot thickens and Devon, Wade and the residents of Rowan Harbor and their friends are tired from all the defending and protecting their loved ones.

Devon is confronted with several personal problems – those which effects his relationship with Wade. Devon, who’s deeply in love with Wade is challenged to come out of his comfort zone to show Wade he’s loving him as much as he is loved – something that’s pretty difficult for Devon to show. As being on the aromantic spectrum/being demi-romantic he’s not having the need like Wade to express their love with grand gestures – so his suggestion is causing one of the rare disputes between these guys.

I really loved how we had a focus on the personal aspects in this book, something that was a bit left behind the previous books due to the (dangerous) events. Therefore I was super happy when we were granted with some domestic, sweet quality time between Wade and Devon – and it showed how amazingly balanced they are, yet they also argue and disagree with stuff. With all these scenes we learned a lot of Devon but also Wade and I think that’s one of the greatest things in a series with those many books. 🙂

Talking about learning new things about the characters can be enlarged to the side characters too. This time we had some very sweet scenes with Oak, a character who is very important and they are such a fundamental and helpful source of knowledge.

Sam Burns knows how to create a world which enrolls its strength over the length of this series, in the events going hand in hand and which let the characters grow.

5 out of 5 stars. I really can’t wait to see what the author has planned for the last two books.

Short Review: In Any Light

When Sam Burns introduced the character Isla in the previous books I was very intrigued of her. She was always kind of fascinating which her way she’s displayed and her attitude. Some might not like her, with her impatience and maybe inexperience but I could connect to her and wanted to see how she grows.

In In Any Light this is exactly shown and I was really happy to see Isla is realizing the importance of her role in Rowan Harbor and for her friends.

Due to tragic events she’s now in charge of an important task, but has the support of her friends and her girlfriend Cassidy behind.

As you might have noticed this book is a FF story, but if you expect steamy, rolling through the sheets-action, you won’t get it here. Cassidy’s and Islas relationship isn’t based on sexual attraction, at least it’s not what Isla needs or likes, since she’s asexual. It’s based on intimacy and closeness in being together, in the support of each other. I loved the gentle scenes, the deep emotions and the caring. It fits to both characters and it’s so beautiful to read.

5 out of 5 stars.

Author bio – Sam Burns

Copy of LogoSam wrote her first fantasy epic with her best friend when she was ten. Like almost any epic fiction written by a ten year old, it was awful. She likes to think she’s improved since then, if only because she has better handwriting now.

If she’s not writing, she’s almost certainly either reading or lost down a wikipedia rabbit hole while pretending to
research for a novel.
