Good evening my lovely readers,

today is the anticipated release day of Garrett Leigh’s Lucky.
To celebrate this I have a release blitz post but also a review prepared. 🙂

You’ll definitely meet Dom, professional soccer/football player, who’s hiding his sexuality and Lucky, who’s a homeless car mechanic who’s struggling with his drug addiction.

Also scroll down that you don’t miss the giveaway.

Happy reading. 🙂

When I heard Garrett Leigh has a new book in the pipeline I was stroked, as always. When I heard what’s the book was about I was captivated and I couldn’t wait to get it into my hands.

It’s safe to say that with every book by the author you get a realistic, unapologetic display of someone who’s dealing with problems in his life.
With this book we have Dom, who’s a prefessional football player (soccer for those who might get confused with the term ;)) and who’s hiding his sexuality from his team because the Premiership league he’s playing for isn’t open for outed athletes and sports people.
Throughout the book we see Dom’s heavy burden; see how he’s affected by keeping a vital and important part of himself a secret; you see him struggling and finding a way.

When he meets Lucky Dom isn’t able to hide his change, though it might be first more an internal aspect; a slow process but he’s not only finding a nice, short fling in Lucky, he seems to find his soulmate; someone who he can trust – at least in his terms – and where he can be (almost) totally carefree.

Lucky, as a typical character fleshed out by the author, is dealing with his drug addiction, he’s also homeless and sleeps at his friend’s house; he’s trying to find his way through life and with being twenty he went through an aweful lot.

Lucky and Dom complete each other very well and I really loved how they shifted from a Grindr hookup date to a solid couple, where both are sharing their problems with each other. Of course it’s for both of them not easy to open up but it’s in the small gestures and the fine lines, the things between what’s done and what’s told but shown instead what gives you an insight of how important they are for each other.

The POV, written in first person, is a great way to get into the character’s heads and it made reading the whole book different experience you’d get when it would have been third person narration.

The book is real and honest, shows two characters with different obstacles in life and who are living a total opposite live yet they’ve met and feel a strong connection.

I really enjoyed the book. One thing I’ve to mention: there is pretty less showing of Dom playing his sports; it’s more how he feels being a sportsman and surpressed to live openly; so if you are searching for cool soccer/football action you’ll probably a bit disappointed. On the other hand this means the book if perfect for those who aren’t into sports but want to read about the drawback being gay in an environment dominanted by heterosexual people.

This book gets 5 out of 5 stars. I loved Lucky and Dom together.

Blurb

Dominic Ramos is a Premiership football player with a secret. There are no trophies for being gay in his game. Locked into his rep as the meanest defender on the pitch, keeping his secret is soul-crushing, but love has no place in his sport, even if his soft heart craves it.

Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. It’s a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits.

Meeting once was risky, twice pushes Dom’s courage to the limit. Losing Lucky seems inevitable, but his tight grip on his image counts for nothing when Lucky starts to fall.

Catching him could cost Dom everything, but if he can set his heart free, getting Lucky long term might be a risk worth taking.
