Garrett Leigh’s books are always a rollercoaster ride; this book is no exception and I loved how the author managed the balance between the harsh, realistic, unprettfied parts of the book with a lot of hope, second chances and a dose of emotions. :3
I also love how nearly all books have addiction or other “problems” as topic and that being an addict isn’t something the person in the book has to be doomed by it. Instead it’s a part of the person and it gives the reader a better understanding in what it means to be an addict, or to live on the streets or making money with selling the own body.
Garrett Leigh shows unapologetic how “normal” it can be, always with showing the bad sides too, but without making a show out of it; it’s more that the realistic display is what makes you shudder, which leads towards a lot of thoughts and you want to help the MCs when their life isn’t easy or happy.
I like that we see how different two character can be but hot well they fit to each other; Liam and Zac are a pair like this and I loved how generous Liam was, on the other hand how much help he needed by Zac without even knowing. It’s sweet to see Zac domestic, seeing him interacting with Liam’s dad for example but also how he cares for Jamie, his friend and MC of Soul to Keep, the second and final book in the series. 🙂
Because I mentioned Jamie: I like how we get his past in this book, how things were indicated but his full story is revealed in Soul to Keep. The both books can be read as standalone but the whole connection is meant to be with reading both books. 🙂
I enjoyed and felt a lot with Liam and Zac, my heart was bleeding, I was happy, I was sad, I was joyous. 5 out of 5 stars for this amazing, realistic, unprettifed book.

This book is different than Rented Heart but on the other hand pretty similar. Again we have a “lost” character, a broken one, who is searching for a second chance and got it when Jamie was send to rehab to California and is now back in England, in the middle of nowhere, meeting Marc, an ex-military doctor and kind soul.
I liked how both created right from their first encounter a bond, first they both were unaware of it, but pretty soon they can’t deny how they like each other’s company.
The slow building of a friendship into a physical, later romantic relationship is so pretty and genuine, not without problems or obstactacles but in the end the reward is sweet.
Again with Marc and Jamie we have two opposites but they are a different pair than Liam and Zac; this pair has a great balance between the parts in which one of them need help; physically Marc is more imobile than Jamie, but it’s not rare Marc is the helping hand. I liked how Marc’s physical disability is a topic but not something which defines him; like Jamie’s addiction is a part of him – and will ever be – but not what Jamie is.
I had mixed feelings while reading, I was engrossed and totally into the chemistry between the two, other parts of the book didn’t let me loose and I thought about them; it’s an effect I often have, when I read a book by Garrett Leigh.
I liked as I mentioned in the review of Rented Heart that ithe two books are connected but a side-character and friend of Marc, Nat – Nathan – is the MC in Between Ghosts.
Again 5 out of 5 stars for it. I loved this as well as Rented Heart and I am really excited to pick up Between Ghosts. 🙂

Recovering addict Jamie Yorke has returned to England from California. With no home or family to speak of, he sticks a pin in a map and finds a small town in the Derbyshire Peak District. Matlock Bath is a quiet place—he just needs to get there, keep his head down, and stay clean. Simple, right? Until a chance meeting on the flight home alters the course of his so-called life forever.
Ex-Army medic Marc Ramsey is recovering from life-changing combat injuries while pulling nights as a trauma specialist at the local hospital. Keeping busy is a habit he can’t quit, but when Jamie—so wild and beautiful—bursts into his life, working himself into the ground isn’t as compelling as it used to be.
Marc falls hard, but chaos lurks behind Jamie’s fragile facade. He’s winning his battle against addiction, but another old foe is slowly consuming him. Both men have weathered many storms, but the path to the peace they deserve might prove the roughest ride yet.
