It’s the Night of Winter Lights.
Heedless of the holiday, the Commander of the H’Aren fortress, Captain Torýn Torhdhar, seems to find his satisfaction in work.
Such occurrence hardly surprises his Orderly, Sæbastyn Hyago, even though the young Lieutenant has spent a silent, aching decade wishing his superior officer would pursue pleasure elsewhere—specifically in his arms. But as the evening continues, nothing about it meets Sæbastyn’s expectations. Will the Lieutenant see his secret desires realised, or his heart shattered?
When you read my other reviews to Kasia Bacon’s stories you would have maybe noticed I almost gush about them because I am so captivated by her skills in writing and creating a story.
And I have to say: this story is no exception. It seems it doesn’t matter if Kasia Bacon is writing a novelette or a short story: she always nails it. This work with less than 25 pages is full of emotions and she is able to put a whole universe in it, without unnecessary ramblings and descriptions, but with a neat and precise writing you feel into the story, you can see, almost smell and touch the surroundings, this vivid is the writing.
This work is connected to her The Order story but deals with a totally different couple. And Lord, do I want to see this charming couple again. ❤
The emotions are palpable, the whole concept of the hierachy and the social status, the power and the responsibilities, especially Torýn has, but how caring he is towards Sæbastyn. ❤
I can’t say much about the story because it is short without spoiler the most parts, but it’s so marvelous written, so captivating, I was bewitched from the first to the last line. :3
If you love fantasy – or even if you don’t or normally not totally into it like me – and a huge fan of magnificent elaborated stories you should pick this up. It slso does have a nice Christmas-y touch but without actually being a Christmas story. :3
5 out of 5 stars for this.
Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I’m thrilled you enjoyed it ❤
