It’s always like wrapping out a pre-Christmas gift to read holiday stories by Jay Northcote. Every year I am totally anticipated and looking forward to smash myself into the yearly cozy and charming stories.

This year Jay wrotes a story about a charming guy called Luke who is working during the holidays as a Santa in the mall and Theo, who is a single living parent of a 4yo boy named Archie.

I can’t express how much I love stories with children. Some people are maybe annoyed by the small creatures but for me they are a source of utmost joy in books and I am totally fond of reading books with them. Archie is a super sweet, has great manners and isn’t in any kind annoying or bratty.
Archie is playing a main part of Theo’s live and therefore Theo is searching for a partner who is equally okay with having not only him but Archie too.

Luke is first just a nice fling from Grindr, pleasant to talk, nice after the first meeting but Theo is clearly hesitant to open that he is a single living parent.

That Luke is hiding something fundamental, that he is working in the local mall as a Santa, is the perfect deal for a story full of misunderstandings and confusion.

The topic was pretty revealed and was more drama-less than I actually expected. It’s nice to have two mature acting guys, two guys who know what they want and who communicate with each other. And yes, despite their first misunderstandings the book is full of conversations which make clear what’s important for them.
I can actually not tell too much because it would destroy the nice story with revealing all those spoiler. 😉
Next to their conversations, even if they were sometimes rocky because of keeping their secrets, I loved the connection both guys have to their closest ones. Theo has a great relationship with the mother of Theo and Luke has an amazing flatmate.

There is a cozyness, a warmth between the two but also in the whole book. Because of the funny way Jay Northcote is setting the story and garnishs it with even more hilarious, charming scenes, the whole book is a delightful, pre-Christmas-y book.

But Jay Northcote’s books weren’t true ones if there weren’t any hot encounter in it. I’ll only say there is a pretty unique usage of a candy cane (don’t worry, non-edible ;)). 😀
And I can only say there is a heavy chemistry between Luke and Theo and they fit super well together.

As I mentioned the maturity, the overall cozyness and the sweet including of Archie, Theo’s 4yo son in the book, mixed with hot, sweet but also emotional scenes makes the book the perfect pick for a relaxed pre-Christmas evening. It really let you dream about the holidays already. 🙂

Keeping secrets is never a good way to start a relationship

Theo hardly has time to date. Between work and caring for his four-year-old son there aren’t many hours left over. He’s lonely though, so he joins a hook-up app and starts chatting to a guy called Luke. Luke seems friendly and they arrange to meet. Theo doesn’t mention that he has a child. It’s early days and he’s worried about putting Luke off before they get to know each other.

Luke is currently working as Santa at the local shopping mall. He figures Theo never has to know. Christmas will be over soon and Luke will move on to a new, less embarrassing job. He’s surprised when Theo and a little boy visit Santa one afternoon. Theo doesn’t recognise Luke, and Luke realises he’s not the only one with a secret.

Despite misgivings on both sides, they start dating, and the chemistry is amazing. But as Christmas approaches their secrets pile up like colourful packages under the tree. If they’re not careful, they’ll lose the best gift of all—each other.
