As always K.A. Merikan deliver a dark, sometimes disturbing story. This book can be read as a stand alone but it’s clear that the events from Laurent and the Beast are continued. The hero of the book is Knight, Beast’s Vicepresident and right hand.
Next in helping Beast, doing his duties with great diligence he loves to explore his ancestor’s history. This way he knows about The Count, a annoying guy who is a fanboys of the serial killer who did great harm.
But instead of keeping him on distance, their paths cross several times and Knight can’t help himself and offer him a shelter.
The duo K.A. Merikan writes in a seductive way, they create a dark setting, give their stories a set of disturbing characters and let them act in sometimes crazy ways. Still you are captured by them, you are charmed by them and you feel a connection.
Humor and sarcastic encounter aren’t rare, it makes the book even more fascinating.
K.A. Merikans true forte is writing sexy, seductive sex scenes, sometimes they are borderline heavy, but still very intriguing. The sex is rough, the sex is definitely not vanilla and sweet, yet it contains emotions and deep feelings. The love-hate relationship between Knight and Elliot, alias The Count, is well delivered, the enemies to lovers topic well displayed.
Elliot is in my opinion a more complex character than Laurent from the first book and sometimes it’s a bit difficult to like him from the start. Then his vulnerability is really touching and you can’t help yourself and relate to certain emotions he have.
Knight is a character you can relate more, maybe it’s because we’ve seen more when you’ve read the first book, and he seems also a bit more “palpable” in a way to have the feeling of “knowing” him and his principles.
The book has really heavy twist of turns and you are more than once totally surprised, as well as shocked. At least I was and the thrill is from the first to the last page.
With a pleasant, yet sometimes disturbing, borderline sickening set of events, K.A. Merikan know how to push the reader’s buttons. They create a thrilling story, full of dark encounter and supernatural/paranormal events. If you are a sucker for this, grab your copy of the book. 5 out of 5 stars for this.
