Julia is in danger and it doesn’t mean bodily harm. Instead she is in danger to lose her customer in her cozy café to a new coffee shop across the street, managed by an old business partner of her father and on top her back is coming back: we finally meet Julia’s exhusband.

The book starts right away and the reader is thrown in the events of the book which have a higher urgency than the other books. The dynamics in the book is greater and it feels more dangerous that Julia is in loss of her customers. The sensation of the book is great balanced with the crime case and how the events are presented.

Finally we see a few things from Julia’s past, we get a few more information and are confronted with her exhusband Jerrard. Of course this is trouble for Julia because she worries about Barker.

The mix of the personal drama and the crime case is marvelous and you are really excited to turn page after page. The other suprising revealings, some of them already hinted in the last book Shortbread and Sorrow gave the story its extra spice.

Awesome series, great character development and steady a high way of writing. 🙂 Agatha Frost is at her best. And Julia is one of the most charming investigator I ever met. 🙂 Always a pleasure to read about her detective work. ❤ 5 out of 5 stars. 🙂
