A Love in Laguna Novel
Driven by his desire to become a successful fashion designer and concerned with hiding his questionable past, Ru Maitland has let obsession with action movie star Gray Anson on the big screen replace his social life. Then obsession and reality collide when Ru is asked to design fashion costumes for a special performance of Hamlet at the Playhouse in Laguna starring none other than Gray Anson. Gray turns out to be a compelling mix of shy and brash and, despite a high profile engagement to a female socialite, the signals Gray sends Ru have his libido doing the salsa.
Gray Anson has what most people only dream of—great wealth, huge fame, a job he loves. For that, he’s given up any semblance of privacy and the right to say no to the thousands of people who depend on him and the millions who love him. He sees everything he’s ever wanted just outside the bubble of his life, but how can he make the compromises needed to embrace it? When Ru’s shady past crashes into Gray’s paparazzi-haunted present, both men have to learn that sometimes the only acceptable compromise is the truth.
With the third installment Tara Lain goes back to the fashion business in Laguna and display Ru Maitland’s story. I was interested in his character when he was introduced in the first novel along Shaz and to see how well-developed he is was a pleasant surprise.
His story is with a slight dangerous touch, hiding events from his past and never let anybody know anything about it.
He is (slightly) obsessed with the action star Grey Anson and can’t believe when he has the chance to do the costumes in the play Grey is performing.
His chance taking and in secret admiring Grey he is struggeling to keep his hands away from him despite his work on the costumes.
Grey isn’t happy with his fame, at least the nasty attention could be avoided and reduced. As soon as he meet Ru he is captured – and the tension is palpable.But he is aware that Ru keeps secrets.
I really liked how “dark” and serious it is at certain scenes in the book. It is also really hard not to reveal to much of this part in a review, so I am sorry to be so secretive. xD
If you have followed Tara Lain’s stories you know there is always a slight crazyness in the character and this time it is not missing. I really like the humor in the story, it gives the story a certain kind of spice. 🙂
I also like how different jobs and groups are shown throught the whole series.
The constant sexual tension is something which makes the whole book really interesting and stresses out the differences in the jobs.

Ru Maitland arbeitet seit Jahren daran, sich als Modedesigner einen Namen zu machen. Als das Theater in Laguna ihn bittet, Kostüme für eine besondere Inszenierung von Hamlet zu entwerfen, und die Hauptrolle von niemand anderem als dem Traum seiner schlaflosen Nächte Gray Anson gespielt wird, kollidieren für Ru Fantasie und Wirklichkeit. Obwohl Gray vermeintlich hetero ist, kommen sich die beiden während der Proben überraschend näher. Doch Grays Leben wird beherrscht von Verpflichtungen und den allgegenwärtigen Paparazzi, die ihm wenig Privatsphäre lassen. Und Ru hütet ein dunkles Geheimnis, das ihre Beziehung und Grays Karriere in Gefahr bringen könnte…
Im dritten Band geht es zurück ins Modelbusiness von Laguna und diesmal ist es Ru Maitlands Story, dem Assistenten von Shaz. Mir hatte bereits der Charakter gefallen, als er im ersten Buch vorgestelt wurde und an der Seite von Shaz arbeitete. Es ist sehr angenehm zu sehen, wie er mit einer Hintergrundstory ausgestattet wurde.
Seine Story enthält einen Hauch Gefahr, er verbirgt Dinge aus seiner Vergangenheit und Ru lässt niemanden davon in seinem näheren Umfeld davon wissen – auch Shaz nicht als sein langjähriger Freund.
Er ist leicht besessen von dem Actionstar Grey Ansons und kann es kaum fassen, dass er es sein wird, der die Kostüme für das Schauspiel kreieren darf, in dem Grey auftritt.
Seine Chance nutzend und im geheimen Grey bewundernt ist er kaum in der Lage, seine Hände bei sich zu halten, abgesehen von seinem professionellen Auftrag.
Grey ist nicht unbedingt glücklich mit seinem Ansehen und Ruhm, zumindest würde er sich gerne die nervige Aufmerksamkeit ersparen, die er erhält.
Sobald er Ru trifft, ist er gefesselt und die Spannung der beiden ist greifbar. Er merkt aber, dass Ru Geheimnisse hat.
Ich mag in dem Buch sehr wie düster und ernst vereinzelte Szenen sind. Anhand der Ereignisse ist es allerdings nicht ganz so einfach, Dinge nicht zu verraten. Daher tut es mir leid, dass ich so geheimnisvoll bin. xD
Wenn man Tara Lains Stories kennt, weiß man, dass diesen oft eine gewisse Verrücktheit anhaften und ihre Figuren entsprechend reagieren. Auch dieses Buch bietet keine Ausnahme und ich mag den Humor sehr gerne. Die Story erhält damit ihre gewisse Würze. 🙂
Ich mag zudem auch, wie Tara Lain verschiedene Berufsgruppen in der gesamten Serie unterschiedlich darstellt.
Die konstante sexuelle Spannung tut diesen Konstrasten keinen Abbruch, im Gegenteil, es macht das Ganze nochmal interessanter.
For this is give 5 out of 5 stars. I really like how Ru is developed and what secrets he have – something I haven’t expected.
Diesem Buch gebe ich 5 von 5 Sternen. Ich mag es wirklich, wie Ru und seine Geheimnisse hier dargestellt werden – etwas, was ich so nicht erwartet habe.
