Poe doesn’t have much time left and he is hunted by dark creatures and constantly on the run with his best friend Remy. Both have to deal as trickster and thieves to keep themself alive. Poe inheres special power which leads Remy’s destiny to a different, unexpected path. The events getting more dangerous and Poe realises that he doesn’t have a future without Remy, because he is a part of his soul he never can accept to lose…
Fantasy stories, even urban fantasy ones have it very difficult to really capture me. But this book was really good and I had a great time with it.
Maybe it’s the balance between the real aspects and the magic but I really feel comfortable while reading.
Poe and Remy are great, charming, sweet character you totally can connect with. They are best friends since a lifetime and met in a orphanage. Bonded on different level but not admitting they feel more for each other they constantly circle each other. You really feel that both can’t without the other, the fact is boosted by the danger in which Poe and Remy constanly are. Hunted by dark forces which want to catch Poe because of his special power and because he is a danger for them.
The mix of magic and the real aspects were very balanced and the most important fact: it was believable.
I was soon bonded to Poe and Remy, you want to know what both have to deal with, why they are on the run and if they get their happy end. The constant tension between the both guys, the sexual chemistry and the deep feelings only intensify this. They are depend on each other, Poe is in as much need as Remy, Remy maybe a bit more since he is suffering on a disease which threatens his life. It is hurtful and bittersweet to see the desperation but also the deep emotion between them.
Next to this I really liked the british style, though the author is writing mostly in German but due to the setting it was really authentic. The style was fitting, a bit dark, the supernatural, magical events well included to the rest of the story.
Next to the main character also the minor ones are great and promising. The author wrote in the afterword she plans to write about the other too and I’m excited. 🙂
I worried this book maybe didn’t contain much gay romance and interactions I normally used with. But this had a great mix and the tension was constantly there. You feel the emotion and the deep feelings, the pairing is sweet and the ending totally fitting.
With unexpected events and twist and turns, this urban fantasy book really hit a strike. 🙂

Poe läuft die Zeit davon: Von mysteriösen, dunklen Mächten gejagt, schlägt er sich mit seinem besten Freund Remy als Taschendieb und Trickbetrüger durchs Leben. Doch auch Remy flieht vor einem Schicksal, aus dem es scheinbar kein Entkommen gibt – wären da nicht Poes geheimnisvolle Kräfte, die das Blatt noch wenden könnten. Während ihre Lage immer bedrohlicher wird, begreift Poe, dass es für ihn keine Zukunft ohne Remy gibt, denn dieser ist der Teil seiner Seele, den er unmöglich verlieren kann…
Stories aus dem Fanatsy bzw. Urban Fantasy Bereich sind nicht immer mein Geschmack, selten überzeugen sie mich vollends, und auch hier hatte ich ein wenig die Sorge, dass es mir nicht so zusagen würde. Doch ich wurde positiv überrascht und ich kann mit Fug und Recht sagen, dass das Buch bei mir eingeschlagen hat.
Poe und Remy sind zwei junge Männer auf der Flucht, sie kennen sich seit ihrem Aufenthalt in einem Waisenhaus und haben sich über die Jahre mehr als nur platonisch lieben gelernt – doch gestehen sie sich nicht ihre Gefühle füreinander ein. Die Spannung zwischen beiden ist konstant enthalten, verstärkt wird sie durch den Umstand, dass beide ständig auf der Flucht sind, da Poe von dunklen Mächten verfolgt wird. Da er über eine besondere Gabe verfügt, ist er Zielscheibe dieser Mächte, die ihn ausschalten wollen, da er eine Bedrohung darstellt.
Das Buch ist konstant durch eine eigene Dynamik durchzogen, Poe und Remy sind ständig in Bewegung und Gefahren ausgesetzt, versuchen, so weit es ihnen möglich ist, zu überleben. Remy, der unter einer Ktankheit leidet, fällt das zunehmend schwer und es ist bittersüß und schmerzhaft zugleich, zu sehen, was die beiden durchmachen müssen.
Der Roman überzeugt durch seinen britischen Stil, der aufgrund des Settings und der Figuren erzeugt wird. Die Nebenfiguren tun ihr übriges, dass man das Buch selten aus der Hand legt und das Nachwort der Autorin verrät, dass sie weitere Titel in der Reihe geplant hat. Man merkt, dass die Autorin Potenzial für weitere Titel geschaffen hat, wenngleich das Buch auch sehr gut als Einzelband zu lesen ist.
Aufgrund des Plots hatte ich Sorge, dass das Buch nicht so viel Gay Romance Interaktion enthält, wie ich es gewohnt bin, doch ich wurde sehr überrascht und es baut sich konstant eine Spannung auf, die in wundervollen Szenen umgesetzt wird. Poe und Remy haben eine Verbindung, die sehr tief geht und vor alle plausibel umgesetzt ist.
Von mir gibt es für den Titel eine klare Leseempfehlung und ich bin überascht, dass ich so viel Gefallen an einem Urban Fantasy-Titel hatte.
A touch of magic, sweet, charming character which are a great pair let me recommend this book totally to every urban fantasy reader or those who aren’t normally fond of fantasy in general. I was positive surprised. Therefore 5 out of 5 stars.
Ein Hauch Magie, charmante, ansprechende Charaktere, die als Paar wunderbar funktionieren lassen mich dieses Buch absolut weiterempfehlen. Auch Leser, die sonst eher dem Fantasy-Genre abgeneigt sind, sollten hier zuschlagen, Fans von Urban Fantasy sowieso. Das Buch hat mich positiv überrascht. Daher gibt es 5 von 5 Sterne.
