Stacking The Shelves, hosted gracefully by Tynga’s Reviews, is a weekly feature. It is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
This week I got a lot of books – again! 😄 Some of them were ARCs with the same routine: I buy them later. Why? To support the authors. They give me something, I give it particular back. 🙂
I’m also received my manga review copy*. I’m reviewing these in german on Leser-Welt.de. For further information about my german reviews, mostly non-gay romance books and manga check this.
*for the better understanding: I’ll call ebook review copies mostly ARCs whereas I call german review copies simply review copies. 😀
I am so lucky and honored to receive ARCs from so talented and great authors.
From the Ashes by Sierra Riley
release date: september 23th
“There’s nothing for me here but bad memories.”
“I don’t know why I even came back. It’s too late to fix anything.”
Zac Kesson fled the tiny town where he grew up and his closed-minded family years ago. Now he’s a club owner in the big city, finally living his own life, even if it’s a lonely one. But when a forest fire devastates his hometown and puts his father in the hospital, he feels the pull toward home. The last thing he expects is to cross paths with his first love, Anton. The one who broke his heart.
“We’re not even the same people we used to be.”
Anton McKinley, the town veterinarian, will do anything to save Charlestown’s animal inhabitants after the fire. He’ll take in any stray around. Even if the man who brings them in is his ex-boyfriend. He can’t believe the nerve on Zac, showing up after all this time, even if he was rescuing a kitten in the process. Even worse, he can’t believe the spark of attraction he still feels for his former lover, a simmering desire that never really went away.
“If we’re going to do this again, we can’t screw it up this time.”
Fate has drawn Zac and Anton back together, for better or worse. They put aside their differences for the sake of the animals, or at least that’s what they tell each other at first. But as Zac grapples with confronting his homophobic father, he finds himself yearning for the connection that he and Anton once had. While their ruined hometown slowly begins to rebuild, new beginnings are in the air. But is it too late for Zac and Anton? Are they just too different, or do they stand a chance at building something new on the ashes of the old?

Trick Play (Eastshore Tigers # 3) by Alison Hendricks
release date: september 14th
They’ll do whatever it takes to save their team. But can two best friends survive a fake relationship?
Luke Trent is desperate to bring his team back together. If the Tigers can’t get over their slump, he’ll never make it to the pros. With the LGBT-inclusive ‘Rainbow Tigers’ mania dying down, it’ll take a crazy scheme to restore their former glory, and Luke has the perfect one in mind: Dating his best friend.
Brandon Tucker has secretly been in love with Luke for years. He knows he’s going to get hurt if he agrees to a pretend relationship with his very straight friend, but he can’t help it. This is as close as he’ll ever get to the real thing.
The strength of their friendship makes their lie an easy sell, and things are looking up for the Tigers. But when Luke kisses him in front of the whole team, Brandon can’t help but wonder if the only man he’s ever wanted might actually want him back.
With the fire of their fake romance beginning to burn true, a teammate’s devastating betrayal forces them to make a difficult choice: Sacrifice their relationship to save their career, or give up everything else for the chance at a once-in-a-lifetime love.
I read and reviewed the second book with the utmost joy so I was so happy to receive the email with the ARC. :3 Can’t wait to read it. ❤
Twelve Truths and a Lie by Christina Lee
release date: september 19th
Aurora Jones has it all—a job she loves as a child and family therapist, supportive friends, and a decent place to live. What she doesn’t have is much luck when it comes to dating men. And not only are her choices terrible, she also hasn’t been boyfriend free since she was a teenager. So she places herself on a sabbatical of sorts. No dating for twelve months.
Cameron Miller has had a crappy year. His girlfriend fell for his best friend and to ease the pain, he drowns his troubles in more booze and women than he can count. When his buddies finally slap some sense into him and urge him to focus on his new position as a special education teacher in an urban school district, he decides to get his act together.
Away from the prying eyes of their mutual friends, Cameron and Aurora agree to hang out once a week in their newly dubbed Chastity Club. Number of members? Two. It’s a chance to find solace, companionship, and something neither anticipated – a burgeoning attraction. But when Cameron invites Aurora to be his fake date at the reunion his ex-girlfriend and best friend will be attending, their passion ignites. What happens in Chastity Club stays in Chastity Club, right? Until they discover that a year of self-truths might actually lead them to true love.
Since I love to read Christina Lee’s gay romance books I thought I would love to try her non-gay romance book out. 🙂 Can’t wait to read it, the cover looks great and the blurb is intriguing.

The Weight of it all by N.R. Walker
release date: september 12th
After being dumped by his long-term boyfriend for being overweight, Henry Beckett decides to make some drastic changes. In a vain attempt at getting his boyfriend back, Henry does the most absurdly frightening thing he can think of.
He joins a gym.
Reed Henske is a personal trainer who isn’t sure he’ll ever be ready to date again. He’s sick of guys who are only interested in the perfect body image, never seeing him for who he really is.
As Reed tortures Henry with things like diet and exercise, Henry enamours Reed with recipes and laughter. As the friendship lines start to blur, Henry is convinced there’s no way Thor-like Reed could ever be interested in a guy like him.
Reed just has to convince Henry that life isn’t about reaching your ideal bodyweight. It’s about finding your perfect counterweight.
Can’t wait to read this book. The cover is so amazing. It’s rar to have a story with a (light) overweight hero and I heard the book itself it totally great. :3
Phoenix by Rory Wild
release date: september 12th
A man who understands animals better than people…
Since his grandparents died, wildlife rehabber Rhys Greeley became a hermit with only wild animals and his dog, Cocoa, for company. Juggling the care of dozens of injured and sick creatures in his barn, he’s forged a simple, if lonely, life for himself. Everything changes when his former best friend returns to town with a Purple Heart and a horrific story.
A former hotshot pilot with broken wings…
James Jardine left Big Woods for the Air Force Academy so he could escape his late father’s abuse. After a harrowing and widely-publicized experience in the Middle East, he’s back, but he’s not the same person he used to be. Hindered by chronic pain and PTSD, he can only see a bleak and solitary future for himself. But when he finds an injured hawk in his backyard, he crosses paths with his best friend from high school.
Two best friends open their hearts to love…
James starts helping Rhys with the animals, and the two friends rediscover the rapport they once had—as well as the fact that they’re both gay. But when more hawks are found injured and a wildfire threatens the barn, James finds he has to overcome his fears to save the animals. Will Rhys be able to help him fly again?
Phoenix is a steamy gay romance novel with a HEA and no cliffhangers.
I read two other books by the author, I was really pleased. This one sounds even more interesting because of the wild animal care. 🙂 Puppies and kittens are okay, but hawks are rar in animal shelter for me. 🙂
Cover me (The Guardian # 1) by Max Walker
release date: may 24th

“I can give myself to you in ways I only dreamed about.”
Adrian Hawk has been running his whole life. Being raised under the shadow of a highly religious father meant his feelings for other men had to be buried deep in his soul. The shame of his passion caused him to push Tristan away, the one man who could make him truly complete.
“I’ve got you covered.”
Tristan and Adrian find themselves thrown together to stop the King Cartel before they pull off a terrorist attack on US soil. Time is of the essence, so when old feelings start to resurface, both of them must face their past before it becomes a distraction. Can they manage to get over their old scars in time or will their feelings cost them both more than they could have ever imagined?
